Marc is wrong. Teenagers can earn their driver license at 16 in California, just like any other state. There are, however, restrictions on when and who you can drive that stay in effect until you've either had your license for a full year or you've turned 18, whichever comes first. During that period your license is ';provincial.'; You may not drive between the hours of 11pm and 5am, and you may not drive anyone under 20 years old unless there's an adult in the car who's at least 20 years old.

The only exceptions to these rules if you need to transport a direct family member or need to drive late at night or early in the morning in order to get to work/school. In either case, a signed and dated note is required from your legal guardian in case you're pulled over. How old can teenagers start driving?

In California, on the other hand, you have to be 18 to become a driver (legally).

For some states, you cannot have more than one passangers until you turn 18.

I suggest you use Google and do some research about the driving laws in the state you are resident of.
