Do you think that more teenagers are considering diets because of the media?

(eg - TV mag's) more and more teenagers i talk to more girls than boys say ' i am fat' when anyone can see they are not. some of the girls aged 13-17 say 'i am fat' when asked what size they are (eg 12, 14 , 16) they repy 'size 6' or 'size 8'.

what on earth is making them think they need to be size 0 to not be fat???

i have recently asked a question about speeding up your metabilsm, beacuse i to feel the need to lose weight.

Is it just me or does there seem Alot more pressure on not only celebs but normal people to be size 6 downward?Do you think that more teenagers are considering diets because of the media?
Yes there is alot more pressure. Look at all the magazines, the tv shows, it's everywhere! This isn't good either, nowhere are they told they're ok just how they are. This is a big concern. According to the research, because of this, kids aren't drinking milk because they think it's too fattening,so their bones aren't getting the calcium they need, which will lead to early osteoporosis and other diseases. They aren't eating many other foods either. This is a major problem.Do you think that more teenagers are considering diets because of the media?
The media does raise the standard on skinny, but we are also living in a time where everyone knows the health risks to being over weight. When you walk around every day hearing that you're probably going to get heart disease, not make it to 60, the on top of that look at all these skinny people, its going to be a big motivater to loose weight.

Personally I don't think that somone who is a size ten may be fat, or ugly in compaison to someone that is a 3, but depending on their size in general they may be overweight and should seek a good diet for health reasons.
Yes, pop culture tells us that thin is in. It's not focused on health which a lot of people sacrifice to get their desired look. It's about being skinny whatever it takes even if it means eating disorders and obsessive exercise. Young girls are the most susceptible it seems to have these feelings of not being thin enough. If you see it everywhere that celebs are thin and perfect(or so it seems) you are likely going to do something to get the similar shape.

Health should be the focus when getting fit or slender. Proper nutrition and exercise is the way to go. If you want to raise your metabolism you can eat 5-6 smaller meals per day, this keeps your digestive system busy causing more calories to burn. Increase your lean muscle and your body uses more energy to maintain them. Exercise and your metabolism is raised for hours after. Good question and good luck deciding your path.
no

I think it's just talked about more
There is a lot of pressure to be lower than size 6.

I personally love myself at my size 5/7 jeans at age fourteen. =D Curves are way better than sticks, anyway.
yes in a way..

people are not realizing diets are a waste of time, real results come from a lifetime of change.

95% of dieters gain their weight back..

healthy living is not a weeks worth of work, more commercials should advertise the need to permanently change eating and exercise habits. as well as the need to ease into the change gradually to retrain their body and mind.
Media sure does play a big role in making more teenagers (but not just teens) feel as if they are fat just because they are not size 0.

magazines, tv and commercial ads define beautiful by anyone of these adjectives:

thin

lean

smooth

soft

toned

even

with the fact that the young generation is exposed to media (tv, internet, magazines), don't be surprised how the superficial definition of 'beautiful' sell out that easy and affects that much.
Truthfully, I think its because alot of girls look at alot of fashion magazines and compare themselves to the ';super skinny'; models that are in them, and by doing that, they come to the conclusion that theyre fat (when they are Not) only because they are bigger in size compared to the people in Magazines and on Tv.....People Need to get ONE THING STRAIGHT....';Super Skinny'; is not in ANY way Sexy at all....Stop trying to be ';skinny'; and start trying to be ';Fit'; and ';In Shape';...
no. its because we want to feel loved and have boyfriends and thats they only way to do it it seems
