Is sleeping really good for teenagers?

I'm a teenager and my parents yell at me when I sleep in on the weekends or on days when I don't have school. I've heard that sleeping is good for teens, is that really true?Is sleeping really good for teenagers?
YES. Teens need at least (on average) 10 hrs. of sleep per night.

Adults only need around 7-8 to function...Is sleeping really good for teenagers?
You tend to need more sleep because of the changes your body is going through as well as the stress and pressures of school, family and extra activities.
Yes... it is actually VITAL!! you need to sleep... especially as a teenager, it affect your whole day.
Sleeping is good, it helps you grow properly. Teens need about 10 hours per day. Most kids don't get enough during the week and need to catch up on weekends.

If your parents yell at you for sleeping late, what would they do if you REALLY misbehaved?
Sleeping is good for everyone. Adults sometimes don't get enough. Maybe that's why your folks are so crabby.
People of different ages have different sleep requirements. The teenage years are apparently one of the higher sleep requirement age ranges.
Yes it is! I am 14 and i NEED! 10 or 12 hours of sleep every night cause other wise I am a reck! Did you know that the only time you are actually growing is when you are sleeping and the time in your life that you grow most is when you are a teenager so yes teenagers do need lots of sleep!
yes, sleeping is good no matter what age you are. it is recommended that a person get 6 to 8 hours of sleep per day. hope this helps. good luck.
Yes, sleeping in for teenagers is very healthy and very normal. I think that your parents don't understand that. I'm a teenager and I sleep in til noon! Aha...
Teenagers need, I think, 10 hours of sleep per night. However, if you are only getting 6-7 during the week you can not ';catch up'; on the weekends. You should try to space out your week so you can get sleep during the week and try to stick to a schedule even on the weekends. That is best for your body.
Teenagers need more sleep than anyone else.

Although it depends on what you mean by sleeping late.

If you stay up until 4 AM and then sleep until 2 PM, they have a reason to be ticked. If you stay up until 11-12 PM and sleep until around 11:30, on a weekend, that's normal.
Sleeping is good for teens but sleeping in is not! If you sleep in, you break the rhythms of sleeping that you had during the week, it makes you less ready to go to sleep that night, more likely to oversleep the next day and as soon as the first school day comes up, you're running on empty.

Better sleep is regular hours. That includes weekends. If you stay up late one night, get up at the same early time the next day and have a normal day. When you get tired earlier, just go to bed and catch up on your missed sleep that way.
it is totally true....we were talking about it in health class......it is when u grow
Yes, sleeping is good. When you say sleep in do you mean till 10 or 11... that is reasonable, but if past 11 a.m. your parents have a point.
Adolescence takes a whopping amount of energy, not just the physical growth part but the emotional turmoil and the production of hormones and managing the changes in their bodies. Also, they sleep better in the morning, typically, and function better later in the day, totally the opposite of most school schedules.

If you need to, have your doctor explain to your parents that you aren't being lazy, that you really do need the extra sleep.
