Well, this is closer to Orlando than you want but just north of Orlando is Ocala, FL. Just east of Ocala, in the Ocala National Forest, along State Highway 40, is Juniper Springs. It is a beautiful clear spring with great swimming, hiking and canoeing. Most tourists never visit the natural springs in Florida and that is a shame because they are fun and one of Florida's best kept secrets. You can stay in Silver Springs and spend a day at Juniper Springs. Then you may even want to spend a day at the Silver Springs attraction. You will see the real natural Florida.
