well today i turned 14 and no one really cares at all. i mean yess my family said happy birthday but my mums in bed and my dad went to work so im just staying home as it is the last day of holidays well i never have party's so i was Just wondering what do you do for your bday? is it weird that my family act like they don't care.

and only a few of my friends send me texts.

Our kids are very patriotic and most have better sense than the majority of their elders.

They had enough sense to tell Bush where to get off the FIRST time he wasn't elected.

They're smart enough to not confuse following a temporary dictator with following Love of a 230 year-old Country.

I am 19, My best friend is 17, and whenever we stay at each others houses we always sleep in the same bed, even though there is always extra beds available in each of our houses.

We both are straight and have girlfriends, and the thing that's been getting me is that I don't sleep in the same bed with any of my other male friends, so Im just wondering is this normal?

Just dude you and your friend sound pretty close and it is not a big deal to sleep in the same bed. dude if that is where you are in your relationship with him thats cool most dudes would think otherwise. The adults who say it often don't know much more than the teens they are criticizing.

Love in the heart is a metaphysical reaction in the mind to shared values.

Teens too often mistake lust for love, not having known real love. Adults sometimes do the same, but cloak it with rationalizations because they don't have those shared values either--but they think they do because lust--not love--is blind.
When guys are teenagers they tend to think more with their krotches. It's vulgar, but it's the truth. When guys say they like a girl at that age, it's mostly because she's attractive, hot, and or popular. They have a shallow perception of love. I mean, I liked a girl in high school all because she had a nice pair of cheerleader legs, shallow? OH Yeah! and the thing is, at the time I started devoloping false feelings of what I thought was love, when in fact all it was was a fixsation and a lust for her looks. I was too naive to figure out that a lust for someone's looks isn't love. Physical Attraction isn't love, it's preference. While emotional attraction is love. Where you ignore looks and find out what's deep within, and yes, there are a lot of adult men who think with their krotches too, but mostly as you get older your perception of love goes from being shallow, to a deeper perception of love.

In the end my advice to you is, ask your parents what their perception of love is, and to teach you what love is if they're so smart. Love is something you find out for yourself. Some figure it out sooner than others and some never find out. By the context of this question it sounds as if you know what love is. It's all about emotional maturity, if you have that emotional maturity, than you definently know what love is. Good luck man, I hope I helped.
because adults have been through a lot of experiences with love and pain and they want to spare their child so they say that hoping it will but what they don't realize is that they are not validating their children's feelings and I think that could potentially make their children feel like their parent's don't respect their feelings. It sounds like cruelness, but it isn't necessarily meant that way.
because they went threw hurt times. they htought they were in love at one point and they dont want you to make the same mistakes. but if you talk to the people who have been with their childhearts and are still together then they will not say you dont know what love is beacuse they were and still are in love.

There is a big, big difference between love, deep true lasting love, and infatuation.

I'm writing an essay on the life of teenagers during world war two and don't know anything about the topic!What was life like for teenagers in world war two?
The word Teenager was created in the 1950鈥檚 due to the tremendous population of those in this age category and because teenagers started gaining more independence and freedoms. Teenagers were able to buy more things like food, clothes and music because of an increase in spending money.

Teenagers were also becoming more independent in the type of music they preferred to listen to, no more listening to what their parents liked, teens flocked to the new music of the decade, which was rock and roll.

Growing up as a teenager prior to World War II, teenagers were expected to take life seriously. Males were expected to join the military or go out and get a job in order to help bring in money for their family or to take care of their future family.

Females were taught how to take care of the household and prepare themselves to be a dutiful wife and take care of children. Marriage and preparing for a family, more than education or a career, was seen as a definite in the lives of teenagers. Also, teens had very little economic freedom, independence, and input into decision making prior to WWII.

However, in the 1950鈥檚, expectations changed for the teenager. The economy started booming and families experienced a great deal of economic power, freedom and independence, including teenagers.What was life like for teenagers in world war two?
There were no teenagers during WWII, they appeared post War due to the baby boom.

The young people were basically treated as young adults, they left school, they went to work, or either volunteered or were conscripted in the any of the Services.

They lived at home until they were married and many still lived at home until they could afford to rent a house. A mortgage was out of the question, because they did not earn enough.

They were very respectful of their parents/grandparents and had to abide by the rules of the house. the notion of ';family'; ran throughout the country whatever class.

There were no teenager fashions, they dressed like their parents. Colours were either black, grey or brown, socks were woollen, collar and ties were always worn as were hats - either trilbies or caps.

They listened to the ';wireless'; (radio) and went out dancing at the very large dance halls or went to the music hall - the latter with the family. Eating and drinking clubs were for the middle/upper class. They spent a lot of time going to the cinema which was very very popular both before and during and after the War.
There were many restrictions. Girls couldn't buy stockings. Things were rationed. I was born at the end of the baby boom so I really only know things that I overheard or learned about in school. I would recommend that you call or go to a retirement home and interview some seniors that are in their late 60's - 70's and see what they have to say. I'm sure you could find at least one or two that would love to talk to you.

Most seniors are lonely so it would be great for them and you would get great information.

I feel that almost every adult just assumes they are better then me just because they are older. They never take me seriously or listen to my opinions. When I go out to a restaurant, the mall, the movies, or anywhere else with my friends it is obvious that people are watching us just because we are young and therefore they don't trust us. It seems like almost every adult thinks that every teenager is a cheating, lying, stealing, disrespectful ';punk';. And when you are old, you will feel like those younger than you are looking down at you, prejudging you, and stereotyping you. You will feel that they do not respect you or listen to your opinions just because you are old.

Very safe.

When people get drunk here, they don't go out looking for a fight. Everyone drinks and minds their own business.

Don't stand too close to the platform edge. Sometimes there are loonies who want to commit suicide and take you along by accident. (rare that you'd be caught up though but just a precaution)

Not many pick pockets. You will probably never get mugged even if walking around with the equivalent of over $200 in your hand in any dark street. Of course, don't do it, it's just an example.

This is a cash society, so it's common for people to be carrying a lot of cash. No one cares about your cash. Japan is an affluent place.

If you go to any bars/clubs, especially Roppongi, watch out about drinks. Some shady bars have been known to slip knock out drugs in drinks. You won't get raped physically but when you wake up on the street the next day, your credit card will have been raped... 2-3 thousand charged on it. Usually if you walk in to a decent place, no problem. But don't go if there's some guy trying to persuade or force you in.

So in a nut shell, it's safe that you will very unlikely come to any physical harm. Even drunk young women walk home by themselves after midnight, everyday in this city.

Just don't stare at cars with black tinted windows and don't look at the guys with tatoos.

Oh and make sure you carry your passport all the time. (Of course keep a copy in your hotel just in case too). The Japanese police can be a pain and can stop you and ask you for ID at any time, no reasons.

If you are girls, don't stand near drunk guys or weird guys on the trains. Or avoid rush hour... some men get a bit touchy, feely.

PS. Don't jaywalk!! You could get creamed by a car. Coming from N.America where traffic is opposite. I almost got creamed a few times checking the wrong direction for traffic before jaywalking. Japan is generally a safe country. You'd of course still have to be wise and stay out of potentially bad situations - for instance, you don't want to go to kabukicho alone, or get drunk in roppongi at night, or leave your wallet lying around in public or anything else that common sense would dictate as potentially dangerous/stupid.

But if you're careful you'll be fine.
Japan is a very safe country, but I would add that acting stupidly, or irresponsibly can just as easily get you into trouble in Japan, as with any other country.

As long as you exercise common sense and act responsibly, nothing bad should happen. Of course, random chance always lurks just around the corner.

Depends on what kind of cash and how fast you are talking about...

If you need a couple of hundred in a month then you could make some valentine's day crafty articles, rent a table at your local mall and sell them.

If you are talking twenty bucks or so, ask parents and neighbours for odd jobs such as doing the shopping, shovelling snow, babysitting, etc.

If you want money in the thousands then 'fast' might mean 5 years. In that case you need to find a way to market a product or service that is lacking in your community. You will need employees because the more employees you have, the more you are actually making each hour. You might consider approaching a neighbourhood elementary school and asking if you can use one of their rooms after school to have a 'homework club' where you and/or your employees supervise and help with homework for an hour or two for latchkey kids. Remember, just because you are a teen doesn't mean your employees have to be students as well. There may be retired persons or parents who would like to make a few extra bucks as well. If it works for one school, consider expanding. That is just one idea, there are a zillion others waiting for an entrepreneur to take advantage of.

Buy Febreze Laundry Odor Eliminator (with the laundry product additives and usually on the bottom shelf- blue bottle).

Put a cap full of the Febreze into a bucket of water - cold if the cap is dark and let it soak for about 30 minutes.

Best way to wash hats is in the dishwasher. Just don't use dishwasher detergent with it because it will bleach out the fabric. I've been thinking maybe one reason teenagers -normal ones- clash with their parents is because suddenly the parent isn't a god anymore.

Think about it. For the last ten years, you had all the answers. You could make it all go away with chocolate milk and a hug. Now, quite suddenly, you're an insufferable moron in your offspring's eyes. Not only that, but even on a good day, s/he honestly just doesn't need you as much. S/He can and will walk to school, for example. S/He can just go out to a movie, and doesn't need you to be there. S/He would honestly just rather go hang out with his/her friends than play catch or Monopoly with you.

My second theory is that it's also largely concern for romantic areas, as well as possibly a little defensiveness. Your kid is falling in love. You've been in love before, and you've been rejected. You see your kid moving in that place and you want to protect him. You also maybe see it as something of an invasion.What do you think of my theory? It's about parents and teenagers, can you help?
I don't know if I count I'm a parent but I'm also a teen. I never really clashed with my mom just my step-dad but it was because I had all the retrictions of a seven year old. Bed by 8p.m., couldn't go out without a parent, no boyfriends, had to ask to go into the fridge, etc. and this is at 16 I graduated early and had a full-time job. Unfortunately your theory is written from a teenage perspective and is therefore fundamentally flawed.

There is a difference between wisdom and knowledge. Teens have knowledge, and therefore feel they are the masters of the race. On a good day they feel parents are insufferable morons. They feel that they do not need the parents, because they can walk to school by themselves or go to a movie. And of course, they feel they are falling in love.

However with age comes wisdom. All the books written that have given knowledge to the teen, all came from old people that knew what to put into the books.... and what to leave out. Parents understand, that kids feel they no longer need the parent, but the parent knows that for several more years the child has the ability to be a child, only as long as that parent is still a parent. So they make rules, and force children to act and behave as children, because with their wisdom they know that if you are not a child.... you are an adult, and being a child is a whole lot more fun than being an adult. However they also know that their child will need to leave at some point, and so are given tasks to help them develop into adults, even though the child does not like the task... or the thought of growing up.

As for love, the parent remembers when they thought they were in love, but unfortunately with wisdom they know its just hormones acting up and this too shall pass.

The clash between parents and teens is due primarily to the difference in society between now and say 300 years ago. Back then a ';teenager'; was a middle age adult who had been working for the last 3-9 years and their parents, now toothless and crippled, were relying on them to support them in their old age.

So the problem really is that we the parents are wondering when you the teens are going to start giving US the money for those movies, Ipods, Cellphones, Cars, gas, insurance, homes, etc.... and maybe we do get a bit cranky..... when we start thinking we've got to wait another 30 years for you to start providing for US!

I'm a parent, and while I'm still dealiing with a few teens, I have already gone through it several times already. Am I pro? Heck no, cause each child repeats some things and then does or attempts things I never encounterd before. They keep me on my toes.

I actually agree with the god perspective. Once a child hits those double-digits (sometimes a little sooner),he or she begins to clash with the parent more and more for greater control over his or her life. The more independent a child becomes, the more others are going to influence him or her (not as in are sheep, or lemmings). Friends are very important in most childrens' lives.

Therefore, the parents find themselves with less influence because the child wants to fit in, or at least not stand out; and wants to establish an identity apart from his or her parents. It becomes MUCH more important to be Joe's girlfriend, than Daddy's girl.

So the battle over 'power' begins. Curfew, Cash, Clothes, Friends, Hair, Where to go, with whom, and so on. I had to trust that we had taught them the right values in the first place. Otherwise you can worry yourself to pieces about what thay are doing.

My biggest struggle was chores. At about 15 or 16 (I was fortunate) they wereway too busy to wash a few dishes, take out the trash, or even get their own things ready to be washed.

So instead of being the one who made the house run like clockwork, and made everything okay, I became the one who was in the way of what they wanted to do.

My boys %26amp; one of the girls wanted tatoos. Did they get them? Not until they were in their 20's. Piercings? One of the boys and his friends all started this in his 20's as well. However, he %26amp; his friends all decided to dye their hair blond at about 18 or 19. The younger ones and I mostly disagree about being able to go out: where, with whom, how long; and (one daughter) about clothes %26amp; makeup. And chores.

We never had a problem with music, because except for music with swearing (absolutely out, though when they were out of the house they probably listened to it) because I liked %26amp; listened (listen) to the same music. If I like it, I listen to it. It doesn't matter whether it's from the '60's or came out yesterday.

About romance. I never really worried about it. I really did trust them to not make a mistake, because they were taught to make sure what you do is the right thing to do and that it is right for you (and to never yield to pressure). And I knew all of the people they were into (until they were about 19), although a few of my boys tried the several women thing. I don't mind it, because I would prefer to know who they are going with, than find out 3, 4 or 5 years later.

I never resented them being interested in people because I had been rejected. I have actually been married more than 20 years.

But, I was always concerned they might hurt someone or someone might hurt them. Romantically. Feelings are delicate, especially with young hearts. Parents just always want things to go well for their children. However, that doesn't always happen.

Protecting them from romance never really crossed my mind. From harm, yes, but from romance is kind of difficult to do. I might try to protect them from someone I could see might take advantage of them, mistreat them, or ultimately hurt them. I don't just kiss them as they leave and say I hope all goes well for you.

I keep my eyes open just in case.

Being a parent of a teen (or anyone at any age) isn't always easy. Your decisions %26amp; actions are not always the perfect, you may misjudge a situation or action, you can overreact, or you can even be right and respond wrong. Sometimes your child will go against you and do what they want to anyway; then you may find yourself drying tears, issuing a punishment, or even watching them deal with a broken heart or some other disappointment. You have to do what you think is best for your family, using the best wisdom and common sense you have. And with all the love in your heart.

You've pretty much nailed it its a combo of all those things..they are getting their ';wings'; and testing them out being a mom your never quite ready...you look at he/she and still see this little kindergartener on his way to class, and sometimes its sheer will that makes you want to believe for just a bit longer that they are not going through all they are going through...because that means that the really hard stuff is coming, and NOTHING will ever be the same, and for a parent..that means mourning a piece of life that will never come back.
A teenager is testing the parents limits. Trying to find her own way, develop her own tastes. A time to push the envelope and grow up, yet to have Mom %26amp; Dad there, in case things go too far.

When this time is over, the teen has to emerge as a young adult.

At the same time, the parent is not willing to be pushed so hard. The parent sees the dangers the teen may be flirting with. And the parent is afraid that the teen will get into trouble.

All comes out well, once the parent realizes that it's time to let the child go.
The parent is still responsible for your well being and existence, this makes the parents very defensive and if they see pitfall that they had previously experienced, they get agitated. While u want to explore and satisfy your curiosity, they want your safety, this leads to a clash. Once u grow, and are responsible for your own existence, they don't clash.

Now that I have grown up and make all decisions, I wish I had my mom and dad to help make decisions. Life is hard and indifferent task master.

I believe this theory is completely inaccurate. The reason teenagers clash with there parents normally does not have to do with their parents, but with the stages of adolescence. The body is getting ready to spring into adulthood, while the mind may not be ready for the psychological needs of adulthood. Another extremely large factor of adolescence is hormones. These can obviously cause catastrophic mood swings and definitely a rebel attitude towards those who raised you. A common accepted rule is that every generation believes the next generation are going to destroy the world and believe that generation has it easier. Do they? I don't know. Obviously no generation has destroyed the world (it did come close though with nuclear bombs and whatnot) . It is an accepted fact that every single person will have some (even extremely small) amount of a rebellion attitude, not always made obvious to the parents. It is just a part of growing up, and society doesn't need to over-analyze the small situations. All the parents can do is raise their child to know the difference between right and wrong, help them along the way, nurture them, and pray that they do not become convicted felons. (Yes, a little dramatic.)

I don't think that they should be allowed on the road. I'm 16, so, while driving, I have to deal with their poor driving habits on a regular basis around the school and in the school parking lot. (I'm almost rear-ended by by another teenager who is speeding, and doesn't see that I am following the speed limit 3 times a day on average) I would gladly hand in my license if teenage licenses were revoked. Too many of them pay too little attention.What is your opinion on teenagers' driving?
its just dumb asses that think they can do anything and nothing will happen, 3 years ago at my high school someone in my class got in to an accident he was the passenger the car he was in was racing and the driver of that car was caught speeding 5 times but still had his license because his dad was a lawyer, the kid from my class died. me i use to speed a lot 100mph+ but i knew my limits 110 then i couldnt control it because the stearing was so sensitive (i only did this when traffic was clear there was like 5 cars on the road)

I don't think they should make broad classifications about groups of people like that. Rather, they should take away licenses from anyone who is reckless. For those under 21, even a single incident of reckless driving should result in a suspension. That way the reckless drivers will either reform their ways or lose their licenses, and the safe drivers will be able to get around.
I don't think you should get your full license until 18, and should start learning at 16, but only when accompanied by an experienced driver, someone who's at least 25 and has been driving for at least 3 years. Teenagers have been proven to be less attentive on the road, it's not really their fault, it's just the way it is.
I think the age doesn't mater, as long as the driver got a good instructor and good manners .. My daughter was 16 years old when she got her driver's license with the grade: '; ';safe driver';, and she is now over 30, with a very clean driving record.

Besides if you look closer to old drivers in the streets you could find many of them without any considerations to the driving rules.

For the person that said far more than fiscally irresponsible CEOs, a CEO does not have all-power in the company and he is not to blame for the failures of certain companies. Can you even tell me why AIG failed? It's because they offered too many benefits in their insurance to lure people in and it became a burden once the economy fell apart and they had to live up to their agreements. Do you blame GM's failure on their CEO? GM failed because of their legacy costs where they gave workers who only worked their for 10 years complete benefits with 90% salary. That was a deal with the unions.

As for sexually irresponsible teenagers, they cost us a ton of money because the government ';can't'; leave them behind without care. I think the whole abortion issue would be largely taken care of if the government explicitly said nobody gets government aid for their child. I'm not sure that there is a way to measure that. There are too many factors. Medical costs, time wasted or lost at school, free clinics, psychological counseling at school, adoptions, welfare, etc. Am I missing anything?

It's not just the taxpayers, what about parents? How much money do they have to spend, that could be used in more productive ways, on their children.

Teaching children about condoms in school is not the answer! Responsibility should be taught at home. Set a good example for your children and tell them to be responsible.

Depends which country you lived in and whether your family was rich or poor (no change there!).

In UK and USA people usually married earlier than today (around 18 to 20 years old). It was quite possible for a girl to remain unmarried, especially in France or UK as we had lost so many men in the First World War that there simply weren't enough to go around. Often unmarried women would get jobs as servants or schoolteachers.

A wealthy girl could certainly still be living with her family in her 20s as rich families liked to arrange the best possible 'match' ie marry her off to someone wealthy and well-connected, which sometimes took some doing! I'd recommend any of P.G Woodehouse's novels for an examination of the situation amongst the English upper classes.What was life like for teenagers in the 1920's?
Most girls were not married off by sixteen. True, more people left school at an earlier age than they do now, and far fewer went to college, but that applied to boys as well as girls.

Single girls would be expected to work for a living, just like single boys were. Many girls did secretarial work, or worked as nurses or teachers or social workers or librarians, or they worked in shops or factories or as telephone operators. A great many girls were still working in domestic service. some women went into medicine, though the proportion was lower than in the pre-WW1 era. There was a decline of interest among women in following professions during this era.

True, most girls expected to give up work when they married, but in the meantime they were earning a living, or going to college (the proportion of girls going to college dropped during the 1920s from what it had been in the pre-WW1 era, but there were still plenty of them going).

And while they were young they were enjoying themselves. The 1920s was the era of the 'flapper' when women to cutting their hair and shortening their skirts, danced, smoked, drank and drove autmobiles. They took to wearing makeup and to sunbathing. They played golf and tennis and went swimming, and some even took to flying aeroplanes.

it became acceptable for girls to go out with boys without a chaperone, to kiss them, and even to indulge in 'heavy petting' (anything short of sexual intercourse). My aunt was born in 1912, so she was a teenager during the 1920,s. She rode as an Indian Maiden in a Wild West Show held weekends on the 101 Ranch in Oklahoma. She attended college in Tonkawa, Oklahoma and earned a business degree.

She did all the things the other girls did. Drank, smoked, etc and was a ';flapper';. There were no jobs in the 30's because of the depression, so everyone stayed on the farms if they could and worked together there. Of course WWII ended the depression and work was available for everyone. Women dominated the work force since the men were off fighting.

During the 1920's very few people had automobiles. Fewer yet flew. There were no computers, TV, etc. People made their clothes, grew and canned their food, raised and butchered their own meat for the most part. They read, listened to radio, did needle point or sewing. They worked leather, washed clothes on a scrub board by hand, cut wood for the stoves. Many drew water from wells. Few had flush toilets.

Yes, I have wondered about this, too! My guess is because comparing our time to our parents time, if you are an adolescent, today, there are more ways of letting this knowledge get out. TV and advertisments reveal a lot. When I was in 4th grade, most of my friends already knew about sex and all of the cuss words. When I asked my dad, he didn't learn about the words until high school. I didn't go so far as to ask when he learned about sex...I'm guessing it was before or during the time when he was making me. AGH, sorry. But I think that today, we are growin out of the old-fashioned way of thinking. Look up the statistics of teens having sex today, compared to 20 years ago. It does seem a little odd, but I wouldn't know much about it, seeing as I am but a teen myself.

I know the tradition is to go to Cornwall, but parents have pretty much vetoed this because they think it's all sex and drinking (hahaha). So, where should we go? If you have girls you need about 2 slices per girl.

Ya, sounds like immaturity to me. But a lot of times their asking things their to embarrassed to speak to friends or parents. Not to be rude but I'm sick of people always degrading my generation. My dad always goes on about how kids my age are tyrants and are utterly clueless and never listen anymore. To be honest I've never gotten in serious trouble and people tend to call me a goody-goody because I do what my parents ask of me. Just because a portion of teenagers act awful doesn't mean that we all do. Personally, I ask questions on here because sometimes I'm to embarrassed to ask my mom or dad and my friends sometimes do not give me a straight answer. Most teens today don't have a firm foundation, and are still too immature to know what they want in life

College is harder to get into, and many people are taking more than 4 years to get a degree

They account for failure or other set backs so even if they have a pretty clear plan they are still aware it might not go right.

They just don't know what makes them the most happy, when your 5 you want to be a firefighter, when your 16 you want to be a chef, when your 20 you want to be a lawyer but all the time you think ';well maybe I should be a firefighter';. Being in law school may make you satisfied but maybe being a firefighter will make you feel accomplished and happy at the end of the day.
Because college and entry job work is not what they expect out of life. They want to be able to start at 80K with No Experience because that is what they want and they always have gotten what they want. No conception of real world anything.

Kids need to be much more involved in the decisions about their lives, most float through HS and then let Mom and Dad figure out what would be the easiest highest paying job they can go after. Then they go to busines school and get an MBA and get ejected into real world and still--true story coming --expect Mom and Dad to smooth the path.

Graduating with MBA and calls Mom and Dad to ';talk to Mr. ____ because I interviewed and he wouldn' t give me a job. So Mom does call Mr Blank and reams him out for not hiring her 22 year old son who has done nothing useful except summer employment in service jobs since he was 16 .

Needless to say kid did not get the job and worked another summer -living at home-doing service job.

What you will find when you are grown up is that there really is no controlling your teenager. The most you can do is build a strong relationship and if that relationship is not in place by time they are in their teens you can pretty much forget it. The natural breaking away of child from parent will kick in early and rebellion will set in.

Now the way I explained it to my princesses is this: Every time you sex, in a way you are giving a piece of your heart. Sex is a very special and intimate thing %26amp; their memory will be with you forever. Now if you give pieces of your heart to those who dont deserve it, when that person you want to love with your whole heart comes allong you wont have your whole heart to give them.

- Raging painfull STDs

- unwed mothers 50% live in poverty at some time

And the last one I can think of is when you have a baby with your spouse, it will recieve more love than if you had it with a stranger as a teenager.
Marriage wouldn't completely rule this all out but for the most part....

No worrying whether or not the father of your child will leave you.

Well I read in an online medical article that the first time you have sex a hormone is released that makes you trust the person you had sex with. So having sex with someone who eventually might not want you anymore makes the heartbreak ten times worse. But if its with someone you wanna spend the rest of your life with, it can improve the relationship.

I do not recommend abstinence. Sex is a physiological need, to deny it puts unnecessary strain on the body and mentality.
They will be more responsible in choosing their sex partner. Additionally, they will be over the peer pressure stage.
Read this board for a few hours. You'll easily come up with 25-50 kids below 16 years old worried to death that they may be or know they are pregnant. I think each one them is reason enough.

Well you realize what you do so that's a start. Do you want to change? It's really up to you. Don't blame your parents; blame yourself. You are obviously aware of the fact that you don't get along with your parents but you don't seem to care. Do you make an effort? I really don't understand your question or are you just stating something?

All that parents can do is be there and help their children and than the children go out into the world and their parents cant stop them; it's life. Now it's your turn to choose which way to go. Obviously you chose the path of partying and drinking but is that the life you want? Do you want to go to college, become successful, get married, have some children? Or do you want to just continue partying until something major happens that greatly changes your life in perhaps a negative way?

I'm almost 16, but I've never done anything like that. I think parents are responsible to a point. I've had plenty of opportunities to do things like that, but I turned them all down. It wasn't because my mom was there or because I was afraid of her finding out. I just knew it was wrong and probably wouldn't be worth it in the end. I do think about doing things like that, but I don't think I ever will. So, to answer your question... you and your mom are to blame. Your mom should have been there and guided you more, but it was your decision to do the things you did; You can't fully blame her for that.

Ha! Tons? Try millions! I went thru the same thing - still do from time to time. But the days get better as they get older and mature. My son wrecked $20K worth of cars in 7 mos! and now wants me to gt him another one!

Always be firm, fair and consistent in your discipline. Remind him your are the adult and he is the child (they hate it when we refer to them as children!!!). Make sure he understands that for every action, there is a positive or negative reaction (physics anyone???)

Let him fall on his face a few times - I did - I had too. But my son, as he gets older, is my proudest accomplishment in my life and I tell him that on a daily basis. It makes him feel guilty then. :)
I have this problem with my parents. They don't like me very much for reasons unknown. Talk to him and tell him that you've been noticing he argues with you a lot and you don't like it. You want to stop the argueing and just want to work on getting along better. That's what I would want my parents to do. It might not work for everyone though.

Hell yes.

I am a teenager, and my friends and I have traveled up and down the east coast every summer doing mission trips. We've built houses for the poor, provided company and assistance for the elderly, cleaned up hurricane damage, etc etc....

Just because we are younger than the majority of the population does not mean we are any less capable of doing what they do.

Just one more example: Recently I learned about a boy (sorry but I forgot his name) who learned about Modern-day slavery when he was in middle school. Now he is fifteen years old, and he has started a multi-million dollar initiative to free all the modern-day slaves in the world.

People won't start taking you seriously until you are at least 25 and have a job. But people start taking you more seriously when you are 30, kids or no kids, married or not.

I'm 24 and I still don't know everything about myself yet. Life is a learning curve. Even when you are 40 you will still be learning things about yourself. We have alot more options now though than most people who are in their 40s and 50s had when they were our age.

Also adolescence is a very confusing time. You do lots of stupid things. And often you do say things that make you sound like you do know everything (I've been there and done that).

I'm in junior high and these have been some of the roughest years of my life. I've already learned that you just can't listen to what other people say about you behind your back or to your face. I also have developed an eating disorder and I'm only 13. I'm extremely insecure and shy. Yes, teenage years are the most complicated but eventually you'll move on to college and meet a whole new group of friends and you might not ever see the people from your highschool/junior high again. On the bright side, you're only a teenager once and it's hard but billions of people have gone through it.

Cope with what? Freeloading from our parents? They pay for most of everything we do, and put up with the BS. That's not that complicated at all.

Aside from the SAT and getting into college, these are the simplest years in a person's life, we are not too different from child hood, especially we think we are adults. But as far as who a. True there maybe the exceptions, but for the vast majority of the nation's teens, it's basically living off your parents with the mind set your an adult.

What do we really have to 'cope' with that actually means anything in the long run? High school drama and your self- esteem is not that big of a deal in the long run, cause you'll get over it and at the end it's not gonna matter who you were in high school, but rather the amount of numbers in your income.

We all feel for you...you have a period. That sucks. But I assure you, it is 100% normal.

I don't expect most of you to agree with me, cause you all have that simple mind type, where the most important thing is being ';nice'; and a ';good person';, and right now I'm being mean, aren't I? For Chrissake, 13 is hardly a teeanage. I have 6 years over that, how the hell can anyone with little expeirence as that expect to know what being a teenager is really like. You can't even drive a car yet.
Yes, because your so used to being treated like a kid and hating it, and then BAM! you have waaaaay too much responsibility and work, and still hate it. I guess thats why theres loads of kids high on crack and underaged drinkers, not to mention kids having kids.

I deal with it by drinking green tea, playing tennis, yoga (only once in awhile, cause I continiously fall over and can't get up) and answering peoples questions, like this one.

O GOSH IT TOTALLY IS! I'm 13, in the beginning of my teenage years, I just started getting my period, I only had it four times so far, it's weird because it comes somwhere around the end of the month, but no certain day. Once it was on the 16th of november, then on 25th of december, ummm i think 19th of january and 27th of february.

My pooint is, it's really weird. Peer pressure gets so much stronger...the whole boyfriend-girlfriend thing keeps getting mroe serious (All these girls in my class, even the grade 7s in my 7/8 split class, have had their first kiss and I haven't o.O), you want much mroe independance but you don't get it, specially cause my parents are the overprotective kind...yes and Im starting high school next year, and we are preparing this year, it's really weird with the courses and stuff...

BUT this year has been the best year of my life!!!! We get to do so much cooler stuff...like this 3 day school trip to Muskoka Woods! We get so many more privelages, so many mroe activities...it is just really cool :) It's worth the hardships along the way...so far...

Yes and no. Right now this year of my life has been to most difficult. How do I cope?? My Mom, if she wasn't around I would die, literally. Though right now in my Mom's life (she's in her 40's) she is having a pretty difficult time, when her and I talk she says ';This is ridiculous, it's like I'm in highschool all over again';. Mainly because she split up with her husband of 10+ years and is dating and is confused about certain things.

But I do think the teenage years are very difficult, but then again different people have difficult times throughout their lives.

Well I'm a teenager and I'm not violent at all, and neither are most of my friends. I don't think violence in the media leads to mental problems, just that people who have mental problems are more vulnerable and susceptable to the influence of violence in media. Perhaps the media is a reflection of culture?
My mother let us freely watch violence on tv and i can proudly say that i have not been into one fight in school, and in fact have never fought anyone. I dont even turn to violence when someone is trying to be violent with me! So i would say NO. lol

I believe that the children who do grow up to be violent had mental issues in the first place and seeing violence on tv only triggered their illness. I also think that a child who is violent experience personal violence in their own home by their families.

I cannot stand it when you see a school shooting, and it's instantly blamed on a the video games or music the kid listened to! It's only an excuse!

I recommend discussing the use of the car with the parents and setting up rules you can all live with, as well as enforcment of the rules and appropriate consequences if they are broken.

In a way, yes. The media symbolizes, in my opinion, a fake view of beauty. Although as a cosmetologist, I'm all for fixing people up and making them look better from their command, but too much makeup to the point of looking different is unnatural; for an example, take a look at celebrities. They look so 'beautiful' on the screen, but when you look at videos of them without their makeup, people say they look 'ugly.' In fact, most people are so brainwashed by the media, they forget those stars are normal people like us, just wearing tons of makeup and getting mainstream exposure. Therefore, they're so used to seeing the fake makeup image until when it's removed, they didn't primarily see what they normally looked like, so they believe they're ugly. I bet, if they seen without the makeup beforehand, they'd be considered just as beautiful. I'm not against wearing makeup, don't get me wrong, but too much to the point of looking like a mannequin is pathetic. As for teenagers, they watch TV often and don't realize the 'media' or nothing more than normal people like us with their personal opinions. Therefore, they need to learn to develop their own opinions WITHOUT media help. As for fitting in, it's not all because of the media, but also peer pressure. In school, student that were influenced by the media to look pretty in a fake way could influence other girls, and therefore, creating even more 'symbolical beauty.' My advice is, be yourself, find things about yourself you find beauty and forget other people's negative opinions, thank positive opinions, and remember, makeup and flashy may look great, but self-confidence and determination to feel better about yourself is more attractive. Beauty is too good a thing to be wasted on a superficial image rather than a true image.
I don't understand why people always say things like 'today' and 'this generation'. There has been an obsession with the idealized body since the beginning of human kind. Look at the Greeks! all their sculptures were of always of what a perfect person should look like. Wanting to look a certain way has existed for all people in all cultures. People always act like this is some recent epidemic, but its not. Humans (teenagers included ) are always going to want to reach the standard set by their society on how they should look, whether it is harmful or not. Its inevitable.

Don't see why not. I'm sure you'll have the times of your life. Do it now! May be the last chance for a loooong time if you know what I mean. (Wife, kids, job, etc.).

You might want to check your local AAA to see if you can get temporary membership. They can provide valuable service when needed. Even if you don't want any services from them, before you go talk to them anyway. They will still have good info for you.

alot of people are just followers. i don't see why people wanna be like everyone else and do the things everyone else is doing. when something becomes too over rated i start to not like it. i dont want to be like everyone else. o_o

like for example, everyone has side bangs now. since everyone has them i don't want them anymore, and i'm gonna turn my side bangs into full bangs before school starts because noone has those anymore :)
I've loved it since I was nine, and even more when my nan got me my own camera. It wasn't a good one, but I was happy with it. She's great at taking photo's, my nan. She used to sell her prints over the web.

She even sold one that I took. I was proud of that. I like photography, because it means something to me. I've always liked it, and I don't like it just because people love taking pictures of themselves, and then 'love' photography.
99% of those people mean ';photography,'; as in taking a billion pictures of themselves doing ridiculous faces at myspace angles. Not PHOTOGRAPHY photography, as in taking nice pictures at nice angles not of oneself.

You will not find a campground that is friendly to the idea of an unaccompanied group that is made up of teenagers. It is known that responsibility and maturity is lacking in that age group, and trouble normally follows such an event. Either alcohol abuse, drug abuse, or just being loud and irritating to those camping around you will cause any regular operator to shy away from saying yes to accepting your group of campers. That is not an indictment of your group, but just a general knowledge statement that folks from your age group have done some things before that make what you want to do very difficult ifnot impossible.

Personally, I'm going to say, judging by the questions being asked (for the most part) on this site, teens are not thinking much. Everything they don't know gets entered in google, they click the wikipedia link, read a line or two, then take their question here (if they even do the initial search) in hopes someone will take all work out of it and just answer it. The amount of questions copied off homework or that could be easily researched astounds me.

Another aspect is that technology can enable connections with other people all over that wouldn't have been possible a decade or 2 ago, but I think the negative part of that is that they are not physical relationships (mostly) and because of that they're not as strong of social bonds being created. A myspace profile may have hundreds of friends, but what good is that to most people? To meet with friends for lunch and to be able to see their body language and establish that type of connection is lost in an instant message. Hell, it's hard to understand the spelling, much less the intent/intonation of ';txt sp3ak'; (and spelling skills are so far gone...'you' is too long. it's ';u'; now. Seriously?)

Stress. If for some reason a technology was for some reason ';out of order';, then the teen basically freaks out. My teen's phone broke and she didn't know what to do. She lost all of her phone numbers. Try and get them to do complicated math without a calculator. I don't think some teens would know what to do if there wasn't cell phones, iPods, computers, cable tv and video games. I grew up in the 70's when there wasn't any of those things. A funny thing is when my daughter was about 10 years old I showed her an old rotary phone and she couldn't figure out how it worked. I thought that was funny. Most teenagers but not all teenagers are spending way to much time on social networks like facebook and myspace. Oh heck Im in my 40's and very guilty of spending hours on myspace too. Well that's just 1 example in my opinion. Great question by the way!

I think that it is mostly bad. I think most of them have it for the wrong reasons and a lot of them don't have enough responsibility about it. THat being said, I think the solution is in strengthening their self esteem and teaching them about unconditional love. I think that overreacting to young teens having sex just makes it more enticing because it's so cool and rebellious.

I think we need to get to the root of the issue hear and recognize that irresponsible, meaningless sex is a symptom of a much more serious problem. If we have happy and healthy kids, I think they would be far more responsible and involved in things they can be proud of rather than just sex. That is why I see sex as mostly a potentially harmful distraction, not a huge problem in itself. But if I ever had to give a teen a talk about it, I would take it as a case by case situation. The right time to have it is different for everyone. Some kids are real mature, some are not.

As someone who lost their virginity at 17 I've gotta say, looking back 16 and under does seem young. You can't quite wrap your head around what it means.

Still, Teenagers are a determined lot and if they WANT to have sex they're gonna goddamnit. My philosophy is to try to convey to my kids how important this is to me, to them, and to life in general, try to get them to understand the gravity of it, and then teach them how to be safe.

Oh, and Abstinence: A personal choice, not something that can be forced on anyone short of castration. Like I said, if they wanna do the nasty they're gonna.

And i think that having sex is a natural part of life whenever you do it. No matter the age, (unless kids who haven't even started puberty are doing it) sex is natural.

The only thing I see is that kids nowadays, especially girls do NOT a clue as to what it really means to have sex and be responsible. I have two teenage sons who are extremely lazy. I'm tired of coming off as the person always complaining and I'm fed up with yelling at them. There have to be better ways to get them to help.Do you have any suggestions on how to motivate teenagers to help around the house?
If there teen agers they have gotten to the point where they have stoped listening to your yelling. Mine Stoped listening a long time ago.

I would, like others have suggested, stop doing for them. My daughter refuse to do the dishes so I gave her one plate one knife,fork spoon, one cup, on bowl and so on. Those were hers and hers alone, either she washed them or eat out of something dirty. I stoped doing her laundry and since we do not have a washer and dryer at home that means she has to go and pay at the laundry mat. I did the same with the towls. She gets two a week and no more.

She has started to help out a lot more.

You could also pay them or brib them. What ever works.Do you have any suggestions on how to motivate teenagers to help around the house?
Money has always been a great motivating factor for me.

let's say, 6:00 A.M. Saturday morning.
My answer was pretty simple... No help from them..no dates, outings with friends, football games Etc. My kids found out rather quickly that if they wanted a social life the chores must be done.
Stop doing your part. Don't cook, clean, do laundry, cart them around, buy them things etc. I am sure that sounds harsh, but they sound like they have developed a habit of relying on you get things done. They won't help if they don't want to and they won't help if they don't have to. If they have to wear dirty clothes to school for a week, maybe they will get the message.
suggest, stop yelling at them instead whisper to them...then impose a point system and strictly adhere to them...the points will earn them privilages and allowance money, if need be...calmly explain to them the results and reinforce it with hard real life facts...for example, if garbage is not taken-out then reinforce this with a field trip to your local hospitals, sanitation departments, and local public health dept...also, goto your local library and get how-to books in building self-esteem for teens and implement it.

You can either tell them that unless they get their act together then you will not cook and wash their clothes for them. Do not give them any money if they ask for it .Good luck.
Sometimes you have to become a hardass. Start withholding privileges if they don't help you out. If this works, and they begrudgingly start doing chores you assign them, then give them rewards here and there for their help.

Most high street retailers i.e Top Shop, Burtons, Virgin, HMV, e.t.c you get the idea employ young people. You get good discounts from most of them to.

Failing this you could always work in McDonalds or Burger King.

It depends on what you want to acheive. Lots of the larger insurance companies and banks also have a lot of young people working for them.

I'd personally say that no one has a settled - straight forward time with their parents, school or getting into trouble. Everybody has problems regardless of whether you can 'see' them from where you are standing.

It can sometimes take alot for a person to confide in you regarding their home life or school life ect. What you sometimes see on the surface isn't necessarily the truth! While another family may seem perfect to you. I can guarantee you that they have their own issues! Remember people tend to think that the 'grass is always greener on the other side of the fence'.

I have a very close group of friends and realised as we all grew up together that each of us has our own personal problems with life, family, work and uni ect. It just depends on how you deal with your issues that determines how you get on in life.

You can have two children from the same family turn out completely different - One a criminal the other someone who works ect.

Well, this is closer to Orlando than you want but just north of Orlando is Ocala, FL. Just east of Ocala, in the Ocala National Forest, along State Highway 40, is Juniper Springs. It is a beautiful clear spring with great swimming, hiking and canoeing. Most tourists never visit the natural springs in Florida and that is a shame because they are fun and one of Florida's best kept secrets. You can stay in Silver Springs and spend a day at Juniper Springs. Then you may even want to spend a day at the Silver Springs attraction. You will see the real natural Florida. I am also a teenager and like to read books. Some books that I am really into are :

His Dark Materials - Phillip Pullman, the first book has been made into a movie called the Golden Compass, if you have seen the movie, read the books because they are so much better.

Inheritance Cycle - Christopher Paolini. This is so far my favourite series, it includes magic, romance, drama and action. The first book Eragon has also been made into a movie. The book is way better, the characters can be seen very clearly in your head, and the plot is not expected.

Inkheart, Inkspell, Inkdeath - Cornelia Funke. These books are great! You'll fall in love with the storyline and the characters, most of the story has drama and action which makes them hard to put down. By the way Inkheart has also been made into a movie, I have not yet seen it but friends say it is good.

These series are also a great read. Twilight Saga, Mortal Instruments and Vampire Academy.

They are all really good.

Well, i love young adult books, mostly like vampire stuff and all that, mostly kind of horror but not really, just action style, a bit like twilight, but im not a twilight fanatic.

My favourite books in the whole world are the Mortal Instruments series, which includes: City Of Bones, City Of Ashes and City Of Glass, if you haven't read them, you definitely should.They are all about a world where ';Shadowhunters'; lurk around, protecting humans from ';Downworlders'; which are like Vampires, Werewolves, and all that. Its about Clary who is thrown into this world and tries to deal with it, and also about Jace, a very misunderstood and Badass character who will do anything to keep the peace, and hide the secrets- Totally amazing.

Try Vampire Academy, totally loved that one. There are four in the series, Vampire Academy, Frostbite, Shadow Kiss and Blood Promise (Blood Promise hasn't been realized yet, due on 25th August) and they are about a girl named rose, and her best friend Lissa, who escape from the Academy and try to get away, soon being brought back to the academy and thrust into that lifestyle once again, going through the usual high school scene + action and young love = AWESOME.

anyway, they are great!.

Evernight series is really really good, there are three in the series, Evernight, Stargazer, Hourglass. Its about a girl namd Bianca who is enroled in a new school, practically deserted and forced to try to get along with the people in the school, who are extremely perfect. Then she meets Lucas who looks like the others but acts different, he rebels against the school and the stuck up kids and soon Bianca falls for him, with them both in danger once a secret becomes public about their relationship its inevitable that they'll be torn apart, but Bianca and Lucas are determined to stay together, even if that means Bianca risks losing her family.

Morganville Vampires, well that pretty much explains itself, but its about a girl who goes to college and lives with these people are- not quite right- and then she finds out their vampires and willing to protect her, so on so forth.

If you dont like that style, like girl-vampire-werewolf-fantasy almost, stuff then try out Hunting Season by Dean Vincent Carver, its still a werewolf book, but there are no vampires, and no romance.

Try some Stephen King, i love his work, and yer, i read mostly horror genre stuff, but Memoirs of A Geisha and Eragon series are good ones which aren't really horror.

Don't trust the government. -

Take a more active role in learning all you can about the people we put in office. Some professional politicians need to be removed from office. This type of thing has been done before, only the one kidnapped was of a lower social ';status'; than the other two, which sparks that frenzied disintegration of the remaining two teens' friendship and trust of one another. Sounds interesting, but I suggest that one of them be middle class and not rich. This will add a bit of conflict and mystery drama when suspects are questioned. A short story is a quick booklet that has a beginning, middle and end within 200 to four hundred words. Make it fast pace and with surprises or problems to keep the reader interested.

Ok what chores do you have them do? Do you reward them with money or letting them go places they desire. I let my 15 year old daughter do things she likes if she does what I ask of her. I only plan on giving allowance when she starts to babysit her baby brother. He is almost 1. I am a first time mother to a teenager I am just getting advice and opinions from others in similar situations. Just asking.For those people with teenagers what do you do when it comes to chores?
Cleaning up after my dog's back end.

Vacuuming.

Dishes.

Making all the beds.

Keeping my rooms neat.

[Bedroom, Bathroom, Playroom, at all times.]

And chores as assigned.

I voluntarily do my own laundry and clean my room when I can. I always take care of my horse and other animals, and I keep all my tack and supplies clean and in good condition.

I have bad muscle/nerve problems, so my parents just let me do what I can when I can. When I'm feeling good enough I help with whatever they need help with. My parents pay horse board and my mom takes me to the barn every night... I think that's my reward.

I used to do -everything- though when I was 5-12. My mom was stuck in bed and my dad worked a lot, so I had no choice. My parents would buy me a lot of toys, which was fun at that age.
the chores my brothers and I have to do include:

Cleaning up when the dog has an accident, taking the dogs out, making koolaid, feeding the dogs, vacuuming sweeping and mopping all the floors, wiping the counters and tables, taking out the trash, cleaning out the fridge, doing the laundry, making dinner, cleaning the bathroom, living room, and kitchen.

We don't get paid, but we have all the bills paid for us, so we don't complain.... well we do sometimes, but not usually. lol

I get 10 dollars allowance a week.

I don't have any children, but I can tell you what my mother did and it worked. Because of this, I learned the value of a dollar and learned how to keep my priorities in line. Certain chores would be worth a certain amount of money. For example, if you wash the dishes after dinner you get $5 for every time you do it. Or if you clean your room without being asked it's $10 for every time you do it. Laundry was $4, and so on and so forth. I was never given money unless I earned it. We were far from poor, but my mother wanted to instill valuable morals into me. And I can assure you, it worked. If there was a big ball game that I wanted to go to and I had blown all my money on something stupid, that was too bad for me. I would either have to do without (which made me upset at the time, but now I appreciate it) or I would have to go into hyperspeed and do as many chores as I could. Either way, both of us won. And now I realize how important it is to work hard, expect little, and save large. Also, my mother helped to teach me ways to spend and save my money. I chose to tithe on my own and she helped me with that decision. I also chose to save a dollar every time I got paid at least $10, and that added up more than I could have ever imagined it would. I still have some of it left, believe it or not, and I'm using it on student loans. I hope this was helpful!

Thing is we get alot of teenagers round our area not dressing up and demanding sweets. I think its stupid to be honest and i dont want to give them anything. But this year i want to scare them, so obviously fake spiders webs etc. isnt going to work. Ideas?How can i scare teenagers on halloween?
My friends and i decided to do the same thing...so we got one of those fake bodies and tied a rope to it and dropped it down from a tree, right in front of any teenager that walked by! i think we may have scarred some of them for life XDHow can i scare teenagers on halloween?
What I'm doing to my house is, I'm putting candles in the windows, making everything dark. And then putting fog on the front lawn and putting some creepy music and fake blood all over the place. Yes your are most likely depressed if you just ask this question. But there is such thing as mild depression, severe depression, chronic depresssion and pcychotic depression.. I've been through all of them....Mild depression could mean its just temporarily something that fits in the description of children and young teenagers....Do most people think teenagers are being dramatic if they say they are depressed?
You know you are depressed if your clinician (psychiatrist or psychologist) gives you that diagnosis. ';Depressed'; is not something you decide for yourself, and it is certainly NOT something that anyone on this site can say you are or are not.

NO ONE who diagnoses you on this site as ';depressed'; is qualified to say so. And those who ARE qualified will NOT diagnose you for ethical reasons.

If you think you are depressed, you need to see a professional. But if you are simply sad, feeling down, blue, unhappy, etc., that is NOT the same as being depressed, which is an entirely different kettle of fish.

I can't say that teenagers who say they are depressed on this site are being dramatic. More likely, I think THEY think that ';being depressed'; is an entry-level thing to say here. I do believe most people would see teenagers as being dramatic if they say that, yes. Why? Because a teenager has not gone through more than adults have. The problem is teens don't know how to handle it. They also get into adult situations that they can't really handle.

It all depends, really. I've met people who say they're depressed but they are attention seekers. The ones who aren't looking for attention would make it a point to keep it to themselves and deal with it on their own. Because, you can deal with it on your own. You should talk to your doctor about it or at least get more information on dealing with it.

When I was depressed, I actually searched for information online and got through it on my own. Find ways to be more positive, enjoy life and things like that. I learned to let go of the issues I was facing. Only you can help yourself. No one else can know how you really feel, and if you try to talk to the wrong people, all you'll get is more crap, which will lead to you feeling worse about yourself and maybe not knowing what to do with yourself, which is horrible in the long run.
I'm a teenager, and if you are not feeling yourself it doesn't mean you are depressed as feeling bad and having lost a member of the family are not the same thing but you should definitely tell you mom what you are feeling and why etc. It could make you feel better or she could even help you out. I can't be lieve i'm saying this but, remember she's the one that put you on this earth, and if there is anybody who (deserves) has the right to know you the best apart from yourself it's her.
I'm a teenager, I became depressed with my life instantly after my parents got a divorce and I was the only one to comfort her. The symptoms of depression for me (everyone is different) thoughts of suicide, distraction, sad songs playing through my head, fatigue, and not eating. I'm bipolar like my mother but not as much but still I suffer from depression, and I can tell you now ';DON';T CUT YOURSELF!'; I did that and all I could do was hide it, it wasn't fun at all. You just to tell your mom that you think that you aren't happy and she maybe understanding and make you an appointment with a therapist(That's all parent's first reaction) She is your mom and she should be worried about you being depressed.
if you told your mom that you were depressed. I don't think she'd believe you. She'd probably think you were just rebelling and acting out for attention. If you really are depressed she'd probably sense it so she'd come to you.

When your depressed I think it's like you were once happy but you just can't find that happiness. Like you know how it felt but you can't feel it. Like nothing matters. Your so sad that you just want to be away from everything. So you just change. Most depressed people wouldn't even engage in anything such as myspace school friendship or yahoo answers lol I'm a teenager too. Don't worry. We're suppose to get mad, sad, etc. My parents get sick of it but I'm just fine. hahaha :]

P.S. There is a chance that your depressed. Teenagers are under a lot of pressure in this stage of life. So if you are get help IMMEDIATELY. Don't become one of those suicides

It sort of depends what you mean by 'change your life' and what types of things you need to change in your life.

There are always books in the stores that are considered 'self-help' books, but I doubt you'd need them.

I've read books like Go Ask Alice, A Complicated Kindness, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

All books are about teenagers going through different things and it in a way helped me.

Reading these books sort of helped me to stay straightedge regardless of the pressure other people put on me, and to stay true to who I was no matter what.Can anybody suggest any good life changing books maybe for teenagers?

I can't get up in the mornings and I heard about that wake up on time pill and many people say it works. Has anyone here tried it? Is it exactly 7 hours of sleep?Is the Wake Up On Time pill dangerous for teenagers?

Dangerous? hmm. I know this much: it's a stimulant. Other than being packed with B vitamins, the pill has guarana seed extract which contains 5 times the amount of caffeine in normal coffee beans. I do not know how this relates the number of cups of coffee, but I'll tell you this much: I wouldn't want my teenager to tank up on a substance which can potentially raise his heart rate and blood pressure. Kids get enough sugar, salt and other ';bad'; stuff, and we don't need to add a potent caffeine pill to the mix.

Go te bed early. Take a 500mcg or a 1mg melatonin if you need help falling asleep. Take vitamin supplements and drink the coffee after you wake up if needed.

What's your opinion about it? I think it has done more bad things than good. Teenagers can be home schooled too to learn and study. But public schools...umm..they have bad influences. For example, in my school, if one person fights and smokes others think it's cool and they start doing it too. I think happiness really comes before anything else.

I wonder what it'll be like if we experiment with several people. Like make them stay home and study instead of going to school.Do you think school has a big impact on teenagers these days?

I agree that there will always be bad influence

However, I do feel that the socializing thing is important too. Of course not socializing with those screwed up kids, but making normal friends, socialize with them. These are the things that we don't learn from text book.

And yeah, a person happiness is very important, so I think it depends then on a person. If a person prefers a home school environment, by all means there's nothing wrong with home-school.

But if a person prefers to have friends around them in school, as in they require the companionship of others all the time, where they rather attend classes full of kids, the normal school is the way to go.

As for bad influence, thats where the parents comes in. Parents should know their kids friends, who they are hanging out with during the weekends and all.

Wild Ginger has a software program that is free called ';Wild Things'; - you tell it how big you want and it prints pattern pieces on your printer - you just tape them together. There is a backpack with a flap, as well as a zippered messenger bag, called a shoulder bag on their descriptions. I've used this program to make matchy halloween bags. I'm just a satisfied dedicated customer - no affiliation...

I did a search for ';backpack'; on craftster.org, and got like 20 pages of homemade backpacks that people have made there. I think what might be most helpful for you might be the messenger bag tutorials below, with double straps instead of one - the straps would attach at the top and bottom. It is not that hard to do and doesn't require a pattern.Does anyone know where I can find a free sewing/quilting pattern for a backpack for teenagers?

If they want to have sex, they will. If you try to prevent it, they'll just try harder to do it. There's nothing ';wrong'; with sex. Just talk to your kids and tell the parents of the others that are coming about it, so they're careful. The requirements for the sleep over should be that everyone's of legal age, disease tested, all girls are on birth control, and all guys are required to wear the anti-spermicidal condoms provided if they do anything.

It may sound nuts, but if all parents were like that, ';Respect your parents'; would be the cool new thing. Imagine how much respect you'd have from them, if you were accepting, logical and practical, yet firm on the other rules that make sense. They'd have nothing to hide, your friendship with your teens would grow, and the risk of pregnancy would probably go DOWN, because they're being safe and obeying you, rather than being possibly unsafe rebels.
Everyone's first instinct is to say bad idea. However, when oour gang went co-ed, we had a somple rule--if you are thinking about sharing your sleeping bag with someone, don't do it at our sleep-overs/campouts. We had earned the trust of the parents by the rules we had, and any 'extra' activities were just not allowed. It was also pointed out to the parents that if something ';extra' was going to happen, it was going to happen whether they were there or not. Like I said, we earned the trust of the parents by taking responsibility fo what our gang did, and what we would not allow. It takes time. but yes, co-ed witout parents can be a positive thing, if you take responsibility. BTW, there was only one parent in all those years that had anything negative to say about our sleepovers/campouts. The parent said that her son could not go with us because we had our rules about -no mating season-. She was actually afraid that we were all gay/lesbian, and she didnt want her son exposed to it. Go fig.
you have got to be joking yourself when you ask yourself this question. the plan answer is no, even if they say mommy dearest i promise i wont do anything and then they go and put that puppy face on it is just stupid. if you look at how many kids are getting pregnant in high school and now in jr. high without their parents knowning that they are sexually active what do you think that will happen when you have a sleepover and your parents do know that, would you want your daughter or son to be that girl in school that is pregnant or that guy that got her laid, i dont think so and then if you add the fact that stds are a big thing in the U.S.A right now, i mean every 5 in 10 people have some type of STD i dont think that that would be any where close to a good idea.
I think that you are just asking for trouble!! At our church we had a co-sleep over and the teams where suppose to sleep in there own tent...well that would mean that the teams of both girls and guys would be sleeping together and us girls talked the adults out of it. That sound backwards, but it is true. The only differance is that all of us there where virgins(from what I gather) and is was a church youth group kinda of thing!

Now that we are older we tend to hang around all the wrong people and get influenced by sex and drugs. Me and my family are going to Las Vegas in a few weeks and I know my parents will be at the slot machines the whole time I'm 15 and my brothers almost 17 is there anything we can do in Vegas that's safe and more fun than watching the same movie a gazillion times in a hotel room?What is there to do in Las Vegas for teenagers?
At 15 and 17, you're much too old for Circus Circus. You will see a lot of younger kids!!! Anyone who would recommend the Adventuredome at Circus Circus hasn't been there lately! Most teens hang out at GameWorks Movie Theatre (right next to Gameworks), Roller Coasters (Sahara and New York, New York) and the many malls on the strip. The weather will be nice, however it will probably be a little too cool for swimming. I can't imagine you will be entertained for long. Are there family or friends you and your brother could stay with while your parents are in Vegas? Seriously, there is not much for teens to do in Vegas. Vegas is not a family locale!!!!! You should suggest CA instead of Vegas to your parents! What is there to do in Las Vegas for teenagers?
If you end up here before Halloween, definetely try the Frightdome! I'm assuming your hotel room will be set on the strip and the Fashion Show Mall is within walking distance of most hotels and it's really nice and fun. Most casinos aren't strict on letting minors walk through the casino, just as long as you don't linger by the slots, and all the casinos are soooo nice and interesting so you should check that out. Try the forum shops in the Caesars Palace! There's a ton of free shows at night if you walk the strip, such as the pirate show at the T.I., the light show on Fremont, the water show at the Bellagio. You'll be safe, I bet you! Just don't stay out past curfew. The strip is pretty safe if you stay in the populated areas. You can see if there's any concerts going on at Jillians or the House of Blues while you're here. Gameworks is also a nice option for the daytime. Enjoy!
There is EVERYTHING in vegas for everyone. At least try visiting all the hotel themes. Or hangout at the pools at the hotels. Some of the best pools are Mandalay Bay, and The Palms Casino. There are things like ESPN and other fun stuff. The Needle, go golfing, go skydiving, I don't know..tons of stuff. Do a search on google and you should be able to find something.

Well...a book like what you're describing has been done. And done again. And re-done. And over done.

That said, if you're writing a fiction book, then use your imagination. It doesn't have to be based on reality.

Finally, there is no area of NYC that is set aside for ';rich teenagers'; only.

The Upper East Side, as some answerers have mentioned, is not exclusive for the wealthy. In fact, there are several less than nice areas of the Upper East Side as there are in all parts of NYC, it's usually people not from NYC and rely solely on Gossip Girl who list this place as a wealthy area.

However, it seems to me that most of the wealthy areas surround the edge of Central Park. Particularly, Central Park South, East, and West.

If you're unfamiliar with the area then avoid writing about it, your lack of experience will show.

Yes they defiantly have. My parents wont take me any where because gas is soooooo expensive.Where ever i want to go i have to walk and it takes 4 EVER. Im late to mostly everything, including school, and meetings. My family eats soup almost every nite and i dont eat lunch or breakfast so i can save them money to buy gas, and groceries. I cant even get free lunch or reduced lunch because my parents together only make 56,000 and have 1 child. Thats B*LL SH*T!! we even have to give our pets away. For my mom and dad to drive their cars, it takes about 100.00 to fill their gas tank A WEEK!! Its awful.. I HATE THIS WORLD!!! I would suppose less money from their parents to go out to the movies, mall, or w/e. And less often the parents won't be willing to drive them to those places.

It's affected not only young adult drivers but everyone of average means. I think many more people will and should purchase mopeds to use for in city travel to include going to and from school. Once it hits $4 a gallon Mopeds will be exploding more than ever on our roadways. Some are big enough to carry two people and have the power to cruise on any US Hwy. So they would be also Ok for dates etc.
The gas prices suck! I am 17 have a 4 month old baby gotta buy diapers clothes formula and a bunch of other stuff for him and then the gas prices just to go to work is unbelieveable. Where i live it is 3.69 per gallon. ';I have no public transportation like other people do. Some times i have to go to work on E and that is sad!

In the next 10 years it will either be hybrid cars or tiny mini cars which take minimal petrol. The prices are only going to get worse :S.
yea i think it will have a major effect on all teenagers who drive. that means you can't go to the ocean every day unless you live like 5 mintues away from it..i live about 30 minutes away from the ocean. gas is crazy.. it sucks that it has to effect us ad all those other drivers out there.

You can't travel as much as you would like to. I mean, yeah, you can always use the public transport, but for some people, it takes too long. And, you hear your parents complaining all the time about stupid gas bills.
Because us parents can no longer afford to be your taxi cab drivers and bring you all over the place to friends or the mall because we are too worried about savin the gas to get to work!!

I'm a teenager and I absolutely LOVE writing :)

I started writing out a story that I'd had in my head for a while about a year ago and now it's 113 pages long (and I'm not halfway yet) so it'll definately be a novel length book. I've posted it on various sites to see what people think about it and, encouragingly, I've had some good reviews (if anyone wants to read it, there's a link on my profile page).

I am completely hooked on fantasy and fiction. I have one friend who told me she hates fantasy because the things in those stories don't happen in real life. Well, that's the thing I love most about fantasy - the fact that it doesn't happen in real life makes the story interesting, because it would never happen in our world. If I'm feeling down and I want to escape the world then I pick up a book and I'm instantly transported away.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed my ramblings, or at least gained a little knowledge about me from it.Are there any teenagers that want to be future authors?
Yes, I am a teenager who wants to be an author in the future. I enjoy writing very much, and I've come up with a number of plots, but I never seem to finish writing them out. There's one that I really like, though, so I think I'm going to write it all out. It's about aliens and humans and its a love story. It doesn't have a happy ending, but I think it's a good ending, nonetheless.

My story is going to become a novel, because there is no way I could pack that plot into a short story. (:

Genre? Romance. I can't seem to write anything without adding some romance in there. Also, most everything I write is unrealistic.

I can't stand non-fiction really, unless it's one of those things that is only based on a true story. But I'm much more into fiction.

I also write fanfiction, does that count? (: In fact, for now, that's mostly everything I write. I consider it practice; what's the harm? I can only get better.

its about a group of odd friends:

-one guy is a Harry Potter fanatic, 30 years old, trying to start up a Death Eater gang in south side chicago

-Another guy is arab who just moved to America from india and is trying to open up his own a business similar to 7/11. The only problem is he gets his nines and sevens mixed up so when ever he tries to say seven eleven he says nine eleven, and everyone thinks hes talking about the terrorist attack

-A not so attractive girl who works as a prostitute, but charges a million to have sex with her. Her theory: ';i only need one customer and ill never have to work again';

-A timid pimp

-a national guard soldier, who works as a clown when hes not on duty, he wants to be the american equivolent of james bond after he gets out of the guard

The genre that suits me best is drama and realistic fiction. I cannot write a fantasy story very well at all. I have no idea why.

I enjoy fiction the most because you can make everything up. You create characters, which ultimately become real people to you, the places that they go, and more. You control and create everything!

She is 15 years old, getting on my last nerve with this whole ';im so in love with a bum'; situation. It is like she is trying her best to ruin her life.

She recently had an abortion because she thought she was oh so grown up but when i told her to move out and play house on her own she knew she couldn't so she had an abortion and i made sure she got on birth control.

I am a working mom and she has a 2 hour window until i come home so what am i going to do with her? How to get rid of the boyfriend too?

Get a baby sitter for her during those 2 hours or try to change your work shift so you will be home with her. Take away all of her things that she loves and ban her from the boyfriend. Tell him to stay away or else.

Alright, all teenager think they know everything at one point in time. I would suggest you taking everything away from her. Her cell phone, her tv if she has one in the room, don't let her watch tv while your home, make her stay in her bedroom and read and pout if that's what she wants to do. Put a lock on her window in the room so she can't sneak out.

Now, about the abortion thing. I'm not going to open my mouth about, but it probably was the best thing you could do to let her get it, since you would have probably been stuck raising it if she didn't put it up for adoption.

Now, about the boyfriend. If he is over the age of 18 have a restraining order put against him so he cant get to your daughter. If that doesn't work, do what my dad always wanted to do to scare away my boyfriends but he never got the chance! Even though I think your mom, but you could still do it. When the boy comes into the living room when he gets there, be sitting on the couch, smoking a cigar(or pretending to), and clean a gun(or if you don't have one borrow one from a friend for the night). Then tell him about how depressed you have been lately and that you just can't stand to see how him and your daughter are interacting and you just wish he would leave. Hopefully for your sake, he will get scared away by that and never come back.

Also, if you don't want to do that, then when he does come over, do not let them in her bedroom, do not let her go out on dates with him, restrict her friends so you know that she is not going out to see him, speak to her friends parents if she goes to stay over at their house, tell them your fears, and if they are good parents as well they will help you!

Boot camp, you should be able to call social services or the police jury to find out how to get her enrolled in it. It is a real thing and it will scare her straight. As long as the boyfriend is under 18 there is little you can do other than talk to his parents or tell him to stay away.
Want to really embaress her, hire a babysitter. Tell her it is necessary since you can no longer trust her. Tell her that when her trust is earned again, the babysitter will go.

As for the boyfriend, you just can't get rid of him. Have you ever noticed that the more you seem to hate him, the more she ';loves him more than life itself!';. It's rebellion and teen love. Ignore the boyfriend, who will prolly cheat on her or use her, and she will get bored of him rather than be more and more interested in him.

my only advice that i can give is please pray for your daughter.... make her realize that she ruins her life.. i went on the same situation before and i only realize my mistakes when i faced the consequences of my stupidity... never lat your daughter face the same situation... wake her up before its too late.. good luck....
I'm sorry to say but there isn't much that you can do but sit down and try and talk to her on her level .. Don't scream, yell or even raise your voice at her because it will make her angry and she wont want to talk to you!

I have a 13 yr old and boy oh boy am I scared of that age of 15. As a 15 yr old girl we think we know everything. You should get a babysitter for her explaining to her that there is no trust because of her recent actions. Explain that she is not being very responsible. But if you do get a sitter it must be an older person one you can trust and she can also trust. Someone that might be able to help her with whatever she might be going through. She might not be feeling that she can come to you for advice, but if you give her someone that just might do that for her things might change. I am glad you put her on birth control. You can't follow her around or stop her from having sex but you can certainly prevent pregnancy. Also talk to her about STD's show her pictures of the results of being infected.

Now with the boyfriend that's a tough one. You have to keep in mind that the more you try and keep her from him the more she will want him. I really don't think you can get rid of him without getting the law involved, but that could backfire with your daughter. Maybe talking to the both of them and sharing your feelings might help. Talk to his parents and let them know how old your daughter is and that its not appropriate for them to be dating especially since she's already had to get an abortion. Good luck!!!!!

At this time in human history (and prior) people only lived until they were about 40 at the LATEST. It was common to marry at 13-16. As a woman, you were considered withered and old by 20. Children were beginning their training as adults by 4 or so.

The notion of ';love'; came from the middle ages from traveling minstrels who sang songs of love. However, LOVE was not a real reason for marriage as far as the courts were concerned (Dukes, Counts, Barons, etc). It was status and money, and it was very common for both the husbands and wives in English court, at least, to have lovers outside of marriage. I'm not sure what the link is in my situation between doing chores and getting paid...basically I do the chores whether or not there's any money involved. Sometimes my parents decide I didn't do a good enough job so I don't get money, and I do an awful lot of walking that week.

I get $40 a week, but when you factor in the cost of transportation -I live in NYC and a round trip on the subway is $4 out of my pocket- that gets rid of basically my entire budget. My parents don't buy any other stuff, except clothes when I outgrow them. I keep myself to a strict -my parents say overly strict- budget so that's not a problem.

I do the dishes 7 days a week, keep the kitchen clean, keep the bathroom clean, scrub down the kitchen and bathroom once a week, keep the dining room clean, do my laundry, and anything else my parents tell me to do.

My sister keeps the living room clean and does whatever our parents tell her to do. She gets $30 a week. I don't care about the work difference. She's been cooking three or four nights a week for the last few weeks.

When we get groceries, my sister and I put them away. We share a room -4 people in a 2 BR house- and that's our own to deal with. We're relatively neat, but I've been so busy lately that it's been gross on my side. I do my best to hide it, though.

It's actually been a bit touchy with my parents lately...I have a really packed academic schedule this year, more extracurriculars than I've ever had, and a two-year relationship to maintain. I'm hardly ever at home and when I am, I'm working or just plain exhausted. I haven't been able to stay on top of my chores so things have been piling up. I asked my mom if she would mind taking over a few things -between the two of us my sister and I end up doing just about everything, and my mom works from home; she doesn't have a long workday- but that didn't go over well. Also, I need the money to get around and I'm too busy to get a job. So, for the time being, this 16-year old and her twin are the main labor force.

I think 15-16 year olds should be in charge of doing their laundry, helping out with the dishes, unskilled manual labor that the parents can't do or don't want to do, and general picking up. Depending on how busy said 16-year old kid is with school -or sports if they're serious jocks- that can be adjusted. Parents should leave their kids' rooms alone. If there's food in there, that's a different story and that should be dealt with. Otherwise, let the room be a disaster zone as long as it doesn't spill out in to the rest of the house. Keep a closed-door policy if it really bugs you. I was a bit of a slob about my personal stuff for a while -never had much of a problem with schoolwork- but once I almost lost a really sweet game to scratches, I wised up. Let your teens learn from their mistakes, even if it means a bit of a hit to their grades. Clean room, do own laundry, own dishes, and take the garbage out if they see that it is full.

Children are not there to be your slaves, as long as my child cleans up for themseleves and isn't a total slob I am not going to be a pain.

It bugs me to no end to hear about parents who put every single household chore on their child and then do nothing.

If they started being lazy about those things then I would start to lay down the law. Wont do their dishes? Okay, then they cannot eat dinner if they dont want to clean it. Wont clean their room? Okay, they are going to share one with their sibling then.

I still had to do chores...clean my room (even though we had a house maid), walk/feed the dogs, do my own laundry, take out trash, put dishes in the dish washer...etc... the usual

When I was a teen I had to keep my room and bathroom clean and empty the dishwasher. I also did things like help carry in and unpack groceries. I wouldn't say I did it willingly or for money, it was just what I was expected to do. It wasn't an option and I never really gave it a second though. It is just what I did.

I don't think kids should be bribed to help out. They should help out because they are a member of the family.
i help set the table and clear the table after dinner and put any leftovers in containers and then into the fridge

if my dad is out of town i take out the garbage

I have an older brother who is about to be 18 and I just turned 16 a few months ago. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays I clean the kitchen and he cleans the bathroom and on the opposite days we switch up. My mom cleans the house on Sundays and we have to keep our rooms presentable. Every Friday my mom gives us $20 each.
I get 20 a week for:

Emptying/Loading the dish washer Daily

Cleaning up my room on Sundays

Tidying up (hanging up clothes, picking up trash, making bed) my room 3x a week

Doing about 2 hours of random chores on weekends

It doesn't really bother me...I help out if my mom needs me to once and a while.

When I was in grade 9 (2001) it was 'cool'. My friend lied and told me she was pregnant. I didn't tell anyone because it was her news. She was frusterated I wasn't bragging about it, so she eventually told another person, who of course passed around the big news. By the end of day she was known as trailer trash. She did not get the attention she assumed she'd get. In the end, she turned and blamed me for the whole thing, and said I made it up cause I was jealous of her. She was a sad excuse for a human being.

Since the beginning of time my friend. It's all an attention getter, and some people are starved for it. I actually had a conversation with a friend of mine the other day and we were talking about the same issue... and I was proud to say that I never told anyone I was pregnant until I was pregnant with my son, so for 22 years the words never came out of my mouth.

But this is a trend among young girls, I think they view pregnancy as something cool and fabulous, when it's actually the opposite, some people are so desperate for attention that they will go to desperate measures to seek it. Those are the types of people who feed on drama, and look pathetic in everyone else's eyes... but for some reason people still think it's a cool thing to say... maybe one of these days the trend will stop, but until then I guess people like me and you are going to have to deal with it!
I was in high school in the late 90's and there was always the same girls who were pregnant every week...then miscarried. Those girls weren't cute, mostly overweight, skanky and flaunted the idea, true or not, that they were promiscuous. No one liked those girls any more for being pregnant, I suppose they wanted attention because they weren't pretty or popular.

the only cymbals u will ever need, unless u get like beyond godly at drumming and making millions from it, all u need is a set of hi hats, a big crash, a smaller crash for contrast, a ride or crash-ride, and a china. if u wanna add some more effects get a bell effects cymbal like a Zil-bel or a splash. i only use zildjian cymbals theyre great quality (even the cheaper models). ive only had 2 replace one because i dropped it on cement and it cracked, but none have crackedfrom playing, and i play hard. the only non-zildjian cymbal i use is a wuhan china crash cymbal. they sound better than any china ive heard (even the high name xpencive brands) and they are DIRT CHEAP! i have an 18'; that ran me $38. best investment i ever made. u can emulate damnn ear any song in the history of songs with a set up like i suggested. just aim for zildjian cymbals in ur price range cause they all sound good, but of course, the more xpensive they r, the better they sound.What kind of cymbals do I need to play teenagers by My Chemical Romance on the drums?
It is not so much the cymbals they are playing but the PRODUCTION mix they put on the final mix. Their bio says they use Zildjan cymbsls. But how they mic the cymbals in the recording studio; then what FX they put on the mix in the recording studio is the key. If you are in a recording studio or have a home studio with Pro Tools or Garageband even- then I can give you an idea of what EQ levels you should use to mic and record your drum kit. But I believe they used machine generated drum kit (meaning it was a mix of pre recorded samples that they patched together to ADD to regular live drum kit). Need more info to give you an accurate answer. What software do you have for in studio/ at home recording or live performance amps. What microphones do you use for drum kit?

Dancing is what they love, so if I could find dance classes or a hip hop dance teacher that will teach my girls twice a week it would really give them hope. They are really good kids they just need something they like/love to do that will pull them away from the streets. find a reputable dance company by looking through local community parenting magazines.....dance companies place ads in the papers for their upcoming classes.....You can try word of mouth and the internet, but going through newspaper ads is really the best way
